Slán agus beannacht from Joe Palmisano

Joe Palmisano, a member of the New England Province, has been here for so long that he is almost a naturalised Irish Jesuit. But he has to go home, having completed his work in the Irish School of Ecumenics, and published a scholarly book. He will be missed by many friends, with a prayer that he make a full recovery from the sickness that has threatened him.

"My dear Irish brothers, I wish to inform you, at the invitation of Paul Andrews, that I will be returning to Boston on 1 Feb 2013. I am in need of more chemotherapy. I am hoping that, not unlike the Caravaggio, I will be on ‘indefinite loan’, and not something more ‘permanent’ such as to prevent us from meeting again on this side of heaven!

"And yet, we know the best is yet to come! My prayer for you is one of deep gratitude for these ten years, and with words attributed to St. Brigid, I pray: "I would like the angels of Heaven to be among you. I would like an abundance of peace for you. I would like full vessels of charity for you, and rich treasures of mercy. I would like cheerfulness to preside over all. I would like Jesus to be present in your midst. I would like the friends of Heaven to be gathered around you from all parts. I would like a great lake of beer for the King of Kings. I would like to be watching Heaven's family drinking it through all eternity."
